Crop Circles

Circlemakers: Home of England's crop circle makers. Making the world a more interesting place.

In this site you will find a wealth of information by and about England's crop circlemakers, learn how to become a circlemaker, read about the history of circlemaking, 'hear' a circle being made and learn about some of the weird experiences the circlemakers have encountered whilst out making formations and gain some insight into 'why' this tight band of individuals spend their summers out in the fields of England flattening cereal crops in various intricate patterns!

Crop Circles: The Formative Years 1972-89

"Suddenly, I heard a noise. It seemed as if something pushed down the wheat. That night the air was completely still. I looked around. The moon had just appeared, shining brightly. In front of my eyes I could see a great imprint taking shape. The wheat was forced down in a clockwise direction." -Bryce Bond and Arthur Shuttlewood, first modern crop circles witnesses, Warminster, night of August 12, 1972

"Theories on the Formation of Crop Circles" by Brian Hussey

The following outline is a summary of theories and working hypotheses regarding the mechanisms of crop circle formation. Bear in mind that there are literally thousands of scientists, mathematicians, researchers, and physicists out there who have heard of crop circle phenomena, harbor their own pet theories about how, why, and by whom these glyphs are produced. Keep an open mind as you scan through the ideas and conjectures. Remember that it is all too easy to grasp for certainty at the beginning of a mystery, and then all too easy to throw criticism at something which does not satisfy all the known facts. We encourage you to enter fully into this enigma, applying everything you know to what is unknown. Think of the whole phenomena as if it were an egg-shape of an ellipse. One focus of the ellipse is common knowledge, the other focus being the mystery.

CROP CIRCLES: THE FINAL SOLUTION

Omar Fowler has been involved in the investigation of the Crop Circle phenomenon since July 1985. His early research included crop & soil analysis and aerial photography in both colour and infra-red. Details of two reports, instigated by Omar Fowler were published in the book "Circular Evidence" (page 35). In September 1991 Omar Fowler published a short illustrated paper on his research into the Crop Circle phenomenon entitled "The Significance of Bent Stems in Crop Circles". This paper drew comments from a number of prominent researches.

Crop circles: hoaxes or natural phenomena?

The question posed by the above title was answered presumptuously and onesidedly by Time (September 23) and more objectively by Science (August 30). While Time implies that all crop circles are hoaxes, the Science article states that the "really bizarre" circles are hoaxes and that the simpler circles may have acceptable meteorological explanations. Unfortunately, the ridiculing tone of the Time article will probably set back the budding scientific interest in crop circles reported in Science. The real losers, as we shall see below, are those crop-circle experts who assert that they can always detect hoaxes.

Scientific Research, Evidence & The International Crop Circle Database

Crop circles are one of the most profound and mysterious phenomena of the modern age. Are they a communication from extra-terrestrials? Evidence of other dimensions or a catalyst to advancing our way of thinking?

Crop Circles: Quest for Truth

Crop Circles: Quest for Truth is a compelling and provocative feature-length documentary full of never-before-seen footage and interviews with leading Crop Circles researchers and scientists, some of whom agreed to be on camera for the first time. The film is an in-depth examination of prevailing theories about the origin and nature of Crop Circles and the possible implications for us and for the future of Planet Earth.

The Skeptic's Dictionary: Crop "Circle"

A crop "circle" is a geometric pattern, often very intricate and complex, appearing in fields, usually wheat fields and usually in England. Most, if not all, crop circles are probably due to pranksters. For example, Doug Bower and David Chorley admit to hoaxing approximately 250 circles over many years.

Some believe that the crop designs are messages from alien spacecraft. Some maintain that the aliens are trying to communicate with us using ancient Sumerian symbols or symbolic representations of alien DNA. Those who engage in such serious study and theorizing about crop circles are known as cerealogists (after Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility) or croppies.

Canadian Crop Circle Research Network (CCCRN)

The Canadian Crop Circle Research Network (CCCRN) is a non-profit research organization which has been investigating the crop circle phenomenon and other possibly related phenomena in Canada since 1995, creating a liason between researchers, farmers, scientists, media and the public; it is the only such group of researchers specifically investigating Canadian formations on an ongoing basis. CCCRN was initially founded by researcher, writer, artist and current director Paul Anderson in 1995 as Circles Phenomenon Research Canada, an affiliate of Circles Phenomenon Research International (CPRI). With the later closure of the international CPRI offices, the organization was refounded in 2001 as CCCRN, an independent group with the main office in North Vancouver, British Columbia and provincial branches across the country. CCCRN does not have a general membership per se, membership is made up entirely of volunteer research assistants, currently over 90 and growing.

Science Mysteries: The Crop Circles Phenomenon

Crop Circles - formations, usually found in grain crops, where the crop has been mysteriously found laid flat, in patterns, that did not exist in daylight the previous day.

Although thought by many to be a phenomena of the 20th Century, crop circles and formations have been around for a very long time, and records even date back well before the invention of the camera.

The most well known positive depiction of a crop circle is found in a woodcut made in 1678 with the title 'Strange News out of Hartford-shire’.
